Sessions: Unscripted Pilot (SCAD Produced)
Post Production Supervisor & Digital Imaging Technician
*This SCAD produced unscripted pilot is currently finishing up post production. Full video elements will be added upon official release.*
This video is a series concept sizzle I put together specifically for the SCAD TV Fest pitch hour event. While it is not the full episode, this piece captures the energy of the show.
Data Management on a Massive Scale
The sheer volume of an unscripted pilot requires a rigid and reliable data pipeline. Over my first ten weeks on the project, I personally offloaded over 30TB of raw media. Because the camera team often needed their mags formatted for back to back shoot days, I routinely stayed overnight to ensure every card was securely dumped and verified. I utilized ShotPut Pro for all transfers, generating xxhash64 checksum reports for every single dump. To keep everything transparent, I created a dedicated DIT folder on our shared OneDrive where the production team could access all logs and reports in real time.
Problem Solving
When you handle 30TB of footage, technical hurdles are inevitable. As our data footprint expanded, I completely restructured how we utilized our master drives to maximize storage efficiency and keep the workflow fast. When our Sony FX3 corrupted several video files during production, I immediately stepped in, found a specialized data repair service, and successfully restored the footage so the edit could continue without missing a beat.
Unscripted Workflow
Unscripted Workflow
Unscripted projects require a very specific post environment. I drafted the complete workflow whitepaper and built out a remote pipeline using LucidLink and Avid Media Composer. Since both the creative and camera teams needed rapid visibility on what we were shooting, I engineered a system to quickly generate and distribute transcripts, multi cam review links, and rough string-outs.
Leading to Picture Lock
After ten weeks of securing the media, I took over as Post Supervisor for the following quarter. Unscripted pilots are a massive challenge, but maintaining a people first mindset helped the team stay focused. I managed the pipeline and guided the editorial team to reach a primary picture lock. While the cut is still undergoing some final creative tweaks, we got the heavy lifting done and pushed the project into its final stages.
